Eye Doctor in Plantation, FL

Comprehensive and Specialty Eye Care, Minutes from Plantation

Family Eye Center is an independent optometry practice on West State Road 84, just south of Plantation. We have cared for families across Broward County since 1999, and we serve patients from Plantation, Sunrise, Weston and Cooper City as well as Davie.

We are not a chain. You see the same optometrist every visit, Dr. Massimo Gramanzini, who has practiced here for more than 25 years.

Specialty Care That Most Practices Do Not Provide

Any practice can check your prescription. The reason patients travel to us from Plantation is usually one of these four.

Scleral Lenses and Keratoconus

Scleral lenses are custom lenses that vault over the cornea entirely, resting on the white of the eye. They are the solution when standard contacts have failed. We fit them for keratoconus, irregular corneas, severe dry eye, and high astigmatism. If you have been told you are hard to fit, or that you cannot wear contact lenses at all, this is the appointment to book.

Dry Eye Treatment

Chronic burning, grittiness, watering, or the feeling that something is in your eye is not something you have to live with. Dry eye has causes, and those causes are treatable once they are properly identified. We evaluate and treat dry eye rather than handing you a bottle of drops.

Myopia Management for Children

If your child’s prescription gets stronger every year, that progression can often be slowed. Myopia management uses proven methods to reduce how far a child’s nearsightedness advances, which matters well beyond glasses: higher myopia carries higher lifetime risk of retinal problems. If your child failed a school vision screening, or you have noticed them moving closer to screens, start here.

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

Ortho-K lenses are worn overnight and reshape the cornea while your child sleeps. They are removed in the morning, and vision is clear through the day with no glasses and no daytime contacts. It is popular with swimmers, athletes, and families who want myopia control without daytime lens wear.

Eye Health Examination

Everyday Eye Care for the Whole Family

  • Comprehensive eye health examinations
  • Contact lens evaluations and fittings
  • Children’s and pediatric eye care
  • Senior eye care
  • Glaucoma, diabetic and retinal evaluation
  • Visual field testing
  • Surgical and LASIK co-management
  • An in-house finishing lab, which means faster turnaround on glasses and same day service in some cases

Emergency Eye Care, 24 Hours a Day

Eye emergencies do not wait for office hours. A physician is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for eye injuries, foreign bodies, sudden red eye, infections, and sudden changes in vision. If you are in Plantation and something is wrong with your eye right now, call (954) 423-8444.

Common Questions from Plantation Patients

How far is Family Eye Center from Plantation?

We are located at 9090 W. State Rd 84, Suite 101, Davie, FL 33324, directly south of Plantation just off State Road 84. For most of Plantation it is a short drive down State Road 84.

Do you accept my vision insurance?

We accept most major vision and medical plans, plus the employer plans of several hundred South Florida companies. Insurance benefits are genuinely confusing, so call (954) 423-8444 and our staff will confirm your coverage and explain what it includes before you come in.

How often should I have an eye exam?

Most adults should have a comprehensive eye health examination every year. An annual exam checks far more than your prescription: it screens for glaucoma, diabetic changes, retinal problems and other conditions that show no symptoms until they are advanced.

Do I need a separate contact lens exam?

Yes. A contact lens evaluation is separate from a standard eye exam because it measures the surface of your eye and assesses how a lens fits and moves on it. A glasses prescription alone is not enough to order contact lenses safely.

Are scleral lenses good for dry eye?

They can be very effective. A scleral lens holds a reservoir of fluid against the cornea all day, which keeps the eye continuously bathed. For patients with severe dry eye who cannot tolerate other lenses, sclerals are often the option that finally works.

My child failed a vision screening at school. What now?

Book a comprehensive eye examination. A school screening is a rough filter, not a diagnosis, and it misses a great deal. If your child is nearsighted, this is also the point to discuss myopia management, because the earlier progression is addressed the more effective it is.

Can I be seen the same day?

For eye emergencies, yes. Call (954) 423-8444. For routine examinations, request an appointment online or call and we will find the soonest time that suits you.
