Comprehensive Eye Care for Sunrise Families

Family Eye Center is an independent optometry practice on West State Road 84 in Davie, a straight run south down Nob Hill Road from Sunrise. More of our patients travel from Sunrise than from any other city, including the one our office sits in.

We are not a chain. You see the same optometrist every visit, Dr. Massimo Gramanzini, who has practiced here since 1999. Your results are compared year over year on the same instruments, by the same person who took them last time.

Everyday Eye Care, Done Properly

Most Sunrise patients come to us for the ordinary things. Those are the appointments we think are worth doing carefully.

Comprehensive Eye Examinations

An annual exam checks far more than whether your prescription has changed. It screens for glaucoma, diabetic changes, macular problems and retinal tears, most of which cause no symptoms at all until they are advanced. Visits here are unhurried and everything found is explained in plain language, not read off a screen at you.

Contact Lens Evaluations and Fittings

A contact lens evaluation is separate from a glasses exam because it measures the surface of your eye and assesses how a lens sits and moves on it. We fit daily, monthly, toric and multifocal lenses, and if you have been told before that contacts are not an option for you, that is worth a second opinion here.

Children and School Vision

A school screening is a rough filter, not an eye examination, and it misses a great deal. If your child squints, sits close to screens, loses their place when reading or came home with a screening letter, book a full examination. If they are nearsighted, that is also the moment to discuss slowing the progression rather than simply updating the lenses each year.

Glaucoma, Diabetes and Retinal Screening

If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration, an annual dilated examination is the check that catches change early. We image and document the back of the eye so this year can be compared against last year rather than judged on its own.

Eye Health Examination

Specialty Care Most Practices Do Not Offer

  • Scleral lenses for keratoconus, irregular corneas, post-transplant eyes and severe dry eye, when standard contacts have failed
  • Hard-to-fit contact lenses, including high astigmatism and post-surgical corneas
  • Dry eye evaluation and treatment, identifying the cause rather than handing over a bottle of drops
  • Myopia management for children, including MiSight, Ortho-K, multifocal lenses and Stellest
  • Orthokeratology, lenses worn overnight that leave vision clear all day with nothing worn
  • Surgical and LASIK co-management
  • An in-house finishing lab, which means faster turnaround on glasses and same day service in some cases

Eye Emergencies

Eye injuries, foreign bodies, sudden red eye, infections, flashes, floaters and any sudden change in vision need prompt attention. If you are in Sunrise and something is wrong with your eye right now, call (954) 423-8444 during office hours and we will get you seen. After hours, eye emergencies are referred to your nearest emergency room.

Common Questions from Sunrise Patients

How far is Family Eye Center from Sunrise?

We are at 9090 W. State Rd 84, Suite 101, Davie, FL 33324. From most of Sunrise it is a straight run south on Nob Hill Road to State Road 84, and we sit between Nob Hill Road and Pine Island Road, next to Char Hut and Vienna Cafe. There is parking directly outside the door.

Do you accept my vision insurance?

We accept most major vision and medical plans, plus the employer plans of several hundred South Florida companies. Insurance benefits are genuinely confusing, so call (954) 423-8444 and our staff will confirm your coverage and explain what it includes before you come in.

How often should I have an eye exam?

Most adults should have a comprehensive eye health examination every year. An annual exam checks far more than your prescription: it screens for glaucoma, diabetic changes, retinal problems and other conditions that show no symptoms until they are advanced.

Do I need a separate contact lens exam?

Yes. A contact lens evaluation is separate from a standard eye exam because it measures the surface of your eye and assesses how a lens fits and moves on it. A glasses prescription alone is not enough to order contact lenses safely.

Are scleral lenses good for dry eye?

They can be very effective. A scleral lens holds a reservoir of fluid against the cornea all day, which keeps the eye continuously bathed. For patients with severe dry eye who cannot tolerate other lenses, sclerals are often the option that finally works.

My child failed a vision screening at school. What now?

Book a comprehensive eye examination. A school screening is a rough filter, not a diagnosis, and it misses a great deal. If your child is nearsighted, this is also the point to discuss myopia management, because the earlier progression is addressed the more effective it is.

Can I be seen the same day?

For eye emergencies, yes. Call (954) 423-8444. For routine examinations, request an appointment online or call and we will find the soonest time that suits you.
